Max Sauberschwarz has been appointed the new head of global air freight at DHL Global Forwarding.
Sauberschwarz will assume the new role on October 1, 2023, succeeding Thomas Mack who will move into a new senior advisor role.
Sauberschwarz has more than 15 years of experience in logistics and has held several senior management roles in the air freight sector on global level as well as in Europe and Asia. He joined DHL Global Forwarding in 2019 as senior vice president Global StarBroker.
Mack has worked successfully in the air freight industry for over four decades. He joined DHL Global Forwarding five years ago as head of global air freight and was heavily involved in transforming the organisation into one of the world’s leading providers of integrated air freight services. He also worked closely with sister division DHL Express, leveraging a number of valuable synergies within the group.
Mack’s new senior advisor role will see him continue to report directly to Tim Scharwath, chief executive of DHL Global Forwarding. Following this, after a transition period, Mack will leave the company in October 2024 into retirement.
Scharwath said: “First and foremost, I would like to express my sincere thanks to Tom for his tireless efforts, commitment to the company, and achievements in the division’s growth.
“Under his leadership our air freight business has reached new strengths and heights. We wish him only the best for the future and are pleased that he will continue to advise us with his profound expertise until his well-deserved retirement.”
Scharwath added: “We are delighted to have found a worthy successor to Thomas Mack in Max Sauberschwarz. In his previous role, he demonstrated not only his deep industry knowledge, but also his leadership skills and we look forward to driving the business forward together in the years ahead.”
In addition to Sauberschwarz’s new role, he will also become a member of the DHL Global Forwarding management board.
