Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has reached a key milestone in its Airbus A330-300 conversion programme, as the first aircraft was moved into the hangar earlier this month to begin its transformation from a passenger plane to a freighter.
This follows the successful completion of the final design review (FDR), clearing the way for the conversion process to commence.
In preparation for this project, IAI has established two supply chains to ensure stable and consistent production.
Between 2025 and 2028, the company plans to convert 30 Airbus A330-300 aircraft from passenger to cargo configurations.
The converted A330-300s will offer a competitive, advanced option for cargo and logistics companies aiming to expand their fleets. These modifications will increase cargo space, optimise cargo-loading times due to a uniquely placed cargo door, and enhance operational efficiency for widebody cargo jet operations.
IAI’s Aviation Group, a global leader in passenger-to-freighter (P2F) conversions, has successfully converted multiple aircraft models. The group is also renowned for its MRO capabilities, providing customers with long-term support and swift responses to their aviation needs.
Shmuel Kuzi, vice president and general manager of IAI’s Aviation Group, said: “The entry of the first Airbus A330-300 into the passenger-to-freight conversion process is a significant milestone in the expansion of our portfolio for customers who choose to benefit from IAI’s extensive knowledge, uncompromising quality, and attractive pricing in the field of aircraft cargo conversion.”
