Logistics specialist Menzies Aviation has announced that it will provide Ryanair with fully electric turnarounds at three airports in Europe.

The “green” turns at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, Gothenburg-Landvetter Airport and Oslo Airport have been made possible through the airports’ provision of charging infrastructure necessary for electric equipment and Menzies’ commitment to evolve its ground services equipment (GSE) fleet to becoming fully electric.

Menzies’ head of sustainability and corporate responsibility Katy Reid said: “We recognise the aviation industry’s role in addressing the climate emergency and we are committed to reducing our carbon footprint by switching to electric GSE where possible and ongoing collaboration with partners such as Ryanair will be vital to achieving this ambition.”

Ryanair’s director of sustainability Thomas Fowler said: “We have invested US$22 billion in new aircraft that will help us reduce our fuel consumption by approximately 16 per cent on a per-seat basis.

“We can now offer zero emissions turnarounds at 11 locations, including Amsterdam, Gothenburg and Oslo, when previously, a standard turnaround could emit up to 52.4kg of CO2.”
