The boss of Lufthansa has said he is confident that Boeing will be able to address the issues that have caused delivery delays.
Speaking to Swiss newspaper Switzerland’s Neue Zuercher Zeitung Carsten Spohr, chief executive of the German carrier, said the problems have cost ‘a great deal of money’.
Describing the situation at Boeing, which has seen a succession of high profile technical failures and manufacturing delays, Spohr said aircraft delivery delays were “extremely annoying”.
He said: “This is extremely annoying and costs us a great deal of money. However, I am sure Boeing will get the problems under control.”
He added: “Everyone has an interest in Boeing being able to build great aircraft more reliably again soon.”
Sphor echoed the views of Iata director general Willie Walsh who played down the prospect of Chinese airframe manufacturer COMAC benefitting from Boeing’s woes.
“Given the safety standards we apply at the Lufthansa Group, I don’t think that’s realistic for the coming years.”
