Smiths Detection has partnered with Flughafen Zürich AG (Zurich Airport) to trial an advanced CT X-Ray scanner making security checks easier for travellers.
The HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX Model S is touted as an “industry-leading” carry-on baggage X-ray scanner.
It produces 3-D imagery and will allow nearly 2.7 million monthly passengers at Zurich to leave their liquids and electronics in their luggage as they pass through security to streamline the process.
Matthew Clark, VP Commercial, Smiths Detection, said: “We are delighted that Zurich Airport has selected Smiths Detection to trial the use of this leading technology that will enhance security outcomes and improve efficiency.”
The HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX offers low noise, no vibration, and a 30% faster belt speed compared to other CT scanners.
It also supports “remote screening,” allowing security staff to check images from a separate room, creating a quieter work environment.
Zurich Airport will test the CT scanners in various setups over several months to optimise the new security lanes, aiming to equip all 26 lanes eventually.
