Etihad Airways, the national airline of the UAE, is celebrating Emirati Women’s Day today (28 August) with a video.

The day is celebrated to recognise how women’s roles are contributing to the success and development of the UAE for the next 50 years.

The video starts with Alia Al Shamsi examining the aircraft’s belly before loading aid cargo. Medical staff including Dr. Ghada Al Hadrami and Dr. Zahra Al Balooshi are on the frontline, making sure that all crew are fit to fly before each operation.

Rasha Al Musallami, first officer for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, volunteered to assist medical staff after the airline suspended its flights. In addition to repatriation flights, Rasha later joined other pilots in operating special freighter and humanitarian flights to support the UAE’s mission in transporting aid to countries in Africa, Europe and Asia.

Badreyya Al Mazroei, head of customer service, continues to enhance the airline’s guest services, meeting the needs of travellers and responding to a high volume of call centre enquiries.

The airline’s medical team continue to work around the clock and an “overwhelming” number of volunteers have stepped forward to support the community and the nation during these difficult times.

The airline said that the “world had faced unique challenges in 2020 and female Emiratis within Etihad continue to play a significant role in fighting this pandemic and have laid a strong foundation for the next 50 years.”
