Following the publication of the UK CAA’s interim report into the causes of air traffic control failure over the August Bank Holiday last year, Ryanair’s outspoken CEO has expressed his frustration over the failings of the UK’s NATS organisation and once again repeated his view that Chief Executive Martin Rolfe should be sacked.

“The fact that key NATS engineers were sitting at home during one of the peak travel weekends, combined with findings that NATS has a fundamental lack of pre-planning, documentation, and coordination, clearly demands senior management changes,” he said.

On the subject of Martin Rolfe, O’Leary opined that the CEO’s  ‘position is untenable’ and that the UK’s Transport Secretary should remove him from post if necessary.

“He should be removed, and somebody competent employed to run UK ATC, to ensure its engineers are at work during busy weekends and to ensure that UK NATS has a management team delivering a functional ATC system with adequate pre-planning, documentation, and coordination”, O’Leary concluded.
