ExecuJet Australia and Embraer collaborate on landmark Legacy 500 heavy check

ExecuJet MRO Services Australia has successfully completed the country's first 120-month heavy maintenance check on an Embraer Legacy 500, marking a significant milestone for business aviation maintenance in the region.

ExecuJet MRO Services Australia has successfully completed the country’s first 120-month heavy maintenance check on an Embraer Legacy 500, marking a significant milestone for business aviation maintenance in the region.

The work was carried out at the company’s MRO facility at Essendon Fields Airport in Melbourne. The Legacy 500 aircraft was originally delivered to an Australian customer in 2015 – the first of its kind to enter service in the country.

The comprehensive inspection required full disassembly of key aircraft components. Technicians removed all cabin and cockpit furnishings, including sidewalls and roof liners, to inspect the fuselage structure.

Fuel tank access panels in the wings were taken off to allow for internal inspections, and flight controls were removed to examine attach points.

The aircraft’s landing gear was also replaced with an overhauled set.

To support the complex task, ExecuJet brought in technical staff from its other Australian base maintenance centres, providing them with hands-on experience with in-depth Embraer airframe inspections. The significance of the project also prompted Embraer to dispatch a team of specialists to Melbourne, who collaborated closely with ExecuJet’s engineers and technicians throughout the process.

This milestone demonstrates both ExecuJet’s growing capabilities in heavy maintenance and Australia’s expanding expertise in supporting modern business jets.

ExecuJet MRO Services general manager for Melbourne, Rohan Coots, said: “ExecuJet MRO Services Australia was chosen for this very heavy maintenance check, because of the quality of our  workmanship and experience in heavy maintenance projects. The fact we have supported this particular aircraft, since its entry into service, and are an Australia-based authorised service centre for Embraer was also integral to the decision.”
