SAS Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) has signed a multi-year agreement with Lufthansa Technik for base maintenance services on its Airbus A350 fleet.

Starting in 2026, these maintenance checks will be carried out at Lufthansa Technik Malta, the Group’s European Center of Excellence for widebody aircraft overhauls.

The decision follows a successful initial base maintenance event on an SAS A350-900 performed at the Maltese facility in May 2024.

Building on this experience, SAS has opted to send additional A350 aircraft to the site for scheduled two-, four-, and six-year checks.

The A350, a key long-haul aircraft in SAS’s fleet since 2019, typically operates on routes connecting the airline’s Copenhagen-Kastrup hub with destinations across North America and Asia. Currently, the SAS A350 fleet includes four aircraft.

This new contract deepens the long-standing partnership between SAS and Lufthansa Technik, which already includes a variety of support services such as an Aircraft Production Inspection Program (APIP) for the A320neo fleet, Total Component Support (TCS), and Part-21 engineering services across the airline’s operations. The TCS programme will also support component availability during the upcoming A350 layovers in Malta.

Additionally, the agreement allows flexibility for supplemental services, including potential aircraft modifications during maintenance downtime.
