Vietnamese low-cost airline Vietjet is replacing its paper-based processes of capturing technical issues with Lufthansa Technik’s AVIATAR electronic Technical Logbook (eTLB), making it the first airline in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region to introduce the technology.
The eTLB simplifies communication between cockpit crew and maintenance staff, both on the ground and in-flight, and will be adopted for its growing fleet serving both domestic and international destinations across the region.
The operator has obtained the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) approval for using the eTLB on its fleet of A320/A321 and A330 aircraft.
Speaking about the eTLB implementation, Le Anh Huy, head of MOC at VietJet Air, said: “Based on the close cooperation with the AVIATAR team, we are convinced that the solution will not only improve communication between our crews and tech ops but also increase our overall maintenance efficiency. The application of the digital logbook also allows us to reduce our environmental footprint.”
Frank Martens, senior director of sales and customer development of digital fleet services at Lufthansa Technik, said: “This is an important milestone for us as Vietjet is our first eTLB customer in the APAC region and thus further proof of the added value that our digital solutions bring to our customers.”
The eTLB offers pre-filled text blocks and automated input masks that capture technical issues of an aircraft, replacing time-consuming manual paper entries and improving data quality as well as transparency. The solution works with any hardware device, provides pilots with access to aircraft status anywhere and anytime, and also offers backup processes in case of connectivity issues.
Real-time data availability, directly connected to the maintenance and engineering system, ensures maintenance on arrival and enables a seamless pilot-to-maintenance collaboration, leading to decreased turnaround times and costs. The standardised data structure also helps airlines to gain insights into trend analytics.
