Women in Aviation International establishes new South Florida chapter

Aviation industry, women, training

Women in Aviation International has added a new chapter to the organisation that champions women in aviation covering the South Florida region.

SoFLY Southern Tropics will provide a platform for women in the aviation and aerospace industries to connect, share their experiences, learn new skills, and advance girls and women in all aspects of aviation and aerospace.

Jessi Rowden, manager of chapter relations, said: “South Florida is home to many prominent aviation and aerospace companies and organisations, and we are excited to establish a Women in Aviation International (WAI) chapter in this area.

“We believe that this new chapter will be instrumental in advancing girls and women’s interests and opportunities in aviation and aerospace fields.”

The new chapter will be led by a team of dedicated women committed to providing resources and opportunities, including scholarships, mentorship and career development programs, networking events, and aviation-related volunteer opportunities in the local communities.

“The chapter has generated a large following and interest from all corners of the industry,” said Jessica Matthews, president of SoFLY WAI.

“This includes pilots, aviation engineers, maintenance and airport management, fuel distributors, business aviation and more.”

A recent SoFLY membership and outreach event held at Miami’s Opa Locka Airport was a hailed a success and a Fort Lauderdale membership event was due to take place on May 3 with a Palm Beach to be confirmed soon.

“We look forward to seeing this chapter flourish and make a difference in the industry and local communities throughout South Florida,” said Rowden.
