This latest offering is designed for both retrofits and new completions, and will allow operators to scale new and existing cabins to incorporate contemporary functions such as streaming and app hosting, in addition to the moving map product.

Rosen said the Smart Map Box will be Google Play Store Certified for access to a wide array of apps such as Netflix, YouTube, Hulu and more, and will also be Widevine Level 1 certified for access to the latest Digital Rights Management (DRM) studio content.

“It is so rewarding to see the evolution of our technology portfolio, as it quickly expands to meet the ever-changing landscape of consumer electronics,” said Lee Clark, SVP of strategy at Rosen Aviation. “Our goal is to bridge the gap between what’s available on an aircraft with what passengers have available at home, on their phones, and in their cars. The 4K Smart Map Box undoubtedly achieves that goal. While this announcement is both exciting and impactful, it’s really one of many new solutions that Rosen is bringing to market that dramatically enhances the passenger experience beyond just better display resolution, and we’ll continue to innovate and push the boundaries of what’s possible in an aircraft cabin.”
