Finnair has unveiled new long-haul cabin and seating concepts for its fleet of Airbus A330 and A350 aircraft.
Over the next two years, the airline will introduce an entirely new business class, brand-new premium economy cabin, and a refreshed economy class as part of a €200 million investment to enhance customer experience.
Finnair’s CEO Topi Manner said: “Our investment to enhance the long-haul customer experience demonstrates the continuing commitment of the whole Finnair team to deliver a premium experience in every cabin on our aircraft.
“The pandemic has had a dramatic impact on our industry, but it has not changed our ambition to offer a modern premium experience as we continue to be the first choice for travellers connecting Europe and Asia.”
The airline’s new Premium Economy cabin, which will be installed on all its long-haul aircraft for the first time, will feature memory foam customs, a deep 8” recline, waterfall leg rest, 6-way headrest and dedicated stowage.
The seat will also feature a single leaf meal tray, individual reading lights, and a redesigned in-flight entertainment system with 13” wide screens.
“Premium leisure is a trend that has been significantly accelerated during the pandemic, so we are confident our new Premium Economy travel class with its comfortable seats and more space will prove very popular with customers looking for an upgraded experience from Economy”, added Ole Orvér.
Finnair has also teamed up with Collins Aerospace for its new business class concept, and will be the launch customer for the new AirLounge seat, which is designed to maximise comfort, space and freedom to move during a long-haul flight. The seat’s fixed contoured shell with no recline will enable a wide variety of sitting and sleeping positions.
The new business and premium economy class seating will feature new litalla tableware designed exclusively for Finnair by Finnish designer Harri Koskinen. The collection includes plates, bowls, cups, tumblers, wine glasses and cutlery, which are 20 per cent lighter than the airline’s previous tableware.
The airline has also invested in a refresh of its long-haul economy class, with new seats and larger in-flight entertainment screens for its A330 aircraft and three A350s.
