True Blue Power cuts the cord and conquers the ‘Hell Hole’

New Orleans-based True Blue Power has added a new range of FAA-certified wireless battery chargers to its line of electrical power solutions. The TWC15 Series Wireless Chargers are Qi compliant and provide up to 15 watts of power to smartphones, wireless earbuds and personal electronics.

These new wireless chargers are available in three, easy-to-install configurations and are ideal for use in the cabin and cockpit, the company said.

“Wireless charging has become more and more prevalent in everyday life. Our customers want to bring convenience power to the aircraft but have found wireless chargers were a hassle to install,” said True Blue Power’s director of aftermarket sales and support Van Winter. “With three unique sizes, our chargers are an easy fix. They deliver power through thicker material, giving you a variety of installation options.”

The products are pre-drilled with tapped screw holes and with a 9mm charging gap/depth can charge through thick material. They are also just 5.3mm in depth but the 62x58mm design gives a charging area of 1,871mm squared.

Featuring a durable, anodised aluminium case the chargers meet the latest standards for radio frequency (RF) emissions and protect against short circuit, power surge, overload and overtemperature. The intelligent chargers feature foreign object detection (FOD) and will not operate when an electronic device is not present.

True Blue Power has also introduced a new 4,000-watt AC-to-AC frequency converter built specifically to withstand the harsh operating environment of what the company refers to as the ‘Hell Hole’ in large business jets, commercial and special mission aircraft.

The TFC4000 uses silicon carbide technology, custom magnetics and plenum cooling and is said to be both the quietest and most efficient frequency converter on the market. The silicon carbide also protects internal components from moisture and contaminants commonly found outside the pressure vessel and in non-temperature-controlled locations, like the ‘Hell Hole’. At just 9kg the manufacturer also claims it is the lightest in its power class.

True Blue Power says the TFC4000 provides 15 per cent more power than competing units, turning three-phase 115 VAC at 360 to 800 Hz into single-phase 115 VAC at 60 Hz. It powers outlets throughout the aircraft to support electronics and appliances, such as laptops, computer systems, TVs, vacuums, coffee makers, galley equipment and in-flight entertainment systems.
