Product News: Curveball lighting from STG

‘The Curve’ flexible lighting

Aircraft component manufacturer STG Aerospace has announced the first product of its universal lighting range. The ‘Curve’ is an, LED flex light designed to provide seamless lighting while being adaptable to multiple installations and applications in the aircraft cabin.

STG says The Curve can be used throughout the aircraft, including in wet areas, to provide animated lighting within a slimline, flexible structure that can shape around bends. The light has a 30mm-convex and 50mm-concave bend radius and a footprint of 6mm x 15mm, meaning it can be installed on a range of monuments and in other locations.

The light output can be split into individually addressable 4in segments. Each segment’s colour (with a choice of 16 million), transition and intensity is controlled independently. Customers can design bespoke ambiences such as a Northern Lights effect over a bar front, or a pulsing light in a footwell.

STG also claims the product reduces CMS data traffic, as its internal storage means just 1 byte of data is sufficient to launch a light sequence.

Pierre Michard, sales and programmes director at STG said of The Curve: “It’s the first product in our highly anticipated Universal Lighting Family and we know our customers will be impressed with how The Curve solves the lighting challenges the industry is facing. In fact, it has already been selected for an OEM application on a widebody platform.”
