Ukrainian freighter Antonov Airlines has transported oversized equipment with its AN124 from Italy and Brazil to Chile for a wood-producing factory.

The project was in cooperation with NEO Air Charter and Logwin and the pieces weighed approximately 80 tonnes.

Transportation was needed for the rim from Italy and for the ferrule from Brazil for a kiln that produces quicklime, a necessary product for wood production in Chile. The cargo was destined for a pulp mill located in the Region VIII of Chile.

Antonov Airlines said that both pieces of equipment where required to be changed during a plant shutdown within a strict timeframe. For this, it was necessary to deliver both pieces at the same time of assembly and take advantage of the engineering team hired for such purposes.

Olha Danylova, commercial executive at Antonov Airlines, said: “This project was interesting and unique. The cargo was located in two different parts of the world. It was required to develop a system of fastenings and points for securing the load in order not to build a frame, since this is a long process and financially costly.

“In cooperation with our customer Logwin we organised a trip of our load planner specialist to the manufacturing facility in Italy to assist in lashing planning.

“This project was implemented as a result of a successful partnership: everything went seamlessly. The cargo was safely delivered to Chile.”

Alexander Bang, director of product management airfreight – global at Logwin Air + Ocean, said: “The additional loading in Brazil was managed without any issues and the AN124 arrived in time in Chile and was unloaded without any problems; job done perfectly. This was an international teamwork between all parties involved.”
