Diogo Elias has been named as the new chief executive of Colombian cargo carrier, Avianca Cargo.

After serving as Avianca Cargo’s senior vice president since 2023, Elias will now lead on the carrier’s strategy for growth and innovation, ensuring that the company maintains the value proposition that has solidified its status as one of the region’s leading air cargo carriers.

Elias will drive key initiatives such as fleet expansion, operational network enhancement, investment in digitalisation, and the development of new markets.

Additionally, under Elias’ leadership, Avianca Cargo will remain focused on operational excellence and the implementation of high standards, which have earned company recognition as one of the top six cargo airlines worldwide.

Over Elias’ two-year tenure, Avianca Cargo has been acknowledged as one of the six best cargo airlines globally – the only Latin American carrier to make the list according to the ACNA index.

His leadership has driven significant advancements in building a consistent service portfolio, expanding the network, and growing strategic markets such as the US. In this market, Avianca Cargo achieved a historic record with 25 direct connections from Miami.

Elias has over 20 years of experience in strategic, leadership, and commercial roles, as well as a strong academic background in business and operations management, including an MBA from the University of Michigan.

Avianca Cargo operates more than 220 dedicated cargo flights and over 1,400 flights with cargo capacity in the hold.
