Avianca Cargo reports record Mother’s Day flower season

Colombian freight carrier Avianca Cargo has reported the strongest Mother’s Day flower season in its history, moving more than 21,000 tonnes of flowers to the US.

The carrier said it accounted for 42% of Colombian flower exports to the US during the season, underlining its role in one of the region’s most important annual air cargo peaks.

At the height of the operation, Avianca Cargo operated up to 24 daily departures and transported around 24 million flower stems within a 24-hour period.

Including shipments from Ecuador, the airline said at least one out of every three flowers exported from the region reached its destination on board Avianca Cargo aircraft.

To support the increase in seasonal demand, Avianca Cargo operated more than 330 cargo flights, exceeding the number flown during the 2025 Mother’s Day season.

The operation was supported by a fleet of nine dedicated freighters, two more than the previous year, as well as additional leased capacity. Avianca Cargo said this enabled it to meet higher flower demand without disrupting service across other markets.

Diogo Elias, chief executive of Avianca Cargo, said: “This year’s results reflect the scale of our operation and the trust our partners place in us to move more than 21,000 tons of flowers to the United States, which reflects the coordinated work across the entire logistics chain and further strengthens our role as a key connector between Colombia, Ecuador and global markets.”
