Brussels Airport has officially inaugurated Brucargo Central, a major €70 million redevelopment project at the heart of its cargo zone.
The 83,500 sqm site replaces eight outdated buildings with three modern warehouses and offices totalling 34,000 sqm – increasing storage capacity by 30% while reducing paved areas by 20% to create more green space and improve on-site mobility.
Brucargo Central introduces an additional 10,000 sqm of temperature-controlled facilities, expanding the airport’s total cold storage to 45,000 sqm and strengthening its position as Europe’s leading pharmaceutical logistics hub.
Arnaud Feist, chief executive of Brussels Airport, said: “Accelerating the development of the cargo area at Brussels Airport is one of our strategic priorities. Our role is to be a trusted partner that offers the space, flexibility and long-term perspective that logistics operators need to thrive in a constantly evolving market. Brucargo Central illustrates this perfectly.”
Built according to circular economy principles, the fossil fuel-free site features wood structures, solar panels, geothermal heating, and BREEAM-Excellent certification. It also includes a 500-space car park, electric vehicle chargers, and improved pedestrian and cycling routes.
Five logistics companies – DSV Air & Sea, Nippon Express, Hazgo, EV Cargo and Deny Cargo – will operate from the new hub.
