FCS opens new CEIV-certified pharma handling facility at Frankfurt
Frankfurt Cargo Services (FCS) has officially opened its new CEIV- and GDP-certified Pharma Center, quadrupling its space for temperature-controlled cargo handling at Frankfurt Airport.
The facility, completed after nearly two years of construction while operations continued, centralises FCS’ pharmaceutical handling activities across almost 3,300 sqm.
FCS said the new centre brings receiving, dispatch, storage, break-down and reassembly of temperature-controlled freight into one dedicated area. This reduces travel distances and eliminates transit times in uncontrolled environments.
The centre enables loose freight to be accepted directly into temperature-controlled storage, while also supporting the temperature-controlled assembly of full pallets. It also includes designated powered storage areas for active loading units and containers.
The facility covers both controlled room temperature storage, with a range of 15°C to 25°C, and controlled cool storage, with a range of 2°C to 8°C.
Thomas Schürmann, managing director of FCS, said: “Pharmaceutical handling is one of the fastest-growing sectors in our industry. I am pleased that with our new Pharma Center, we now not only provide the optimal conditions to ensure a fully controlled environment at every stage of handling, but are also ideally equipped for further growth thanks to a significantly expanded facility.”
