SCAT Airlines is set to enter the air cargo market after signing an agreement with Boeing to convert a 767-300ER passenger aircraft into a Boeing Converted Freighter (BCF), becoming the first operator of the type in Kazakhstan.

The agreement, announced during this year’s Farnborough International Airshow, will enable the Kazakh carrier to launch dedicated general and express cargo services as it looks to capitalise on growing freight demand across Central Asia.

The move comes as Kazakhstan seeks to expand its air cargo sector and establish itself as a regional logistics hub linking Asia, the Middle East and Europe.

SCAT Airlines said the programme aligns with the government’s ambition to strengthen the country’s role in Eurasian aviation.

The 767-300BCF will provide the airline with a payload of up to 57 tonnes and a range of 3,345 nautical miles, allowing it to serve medium-haul cargo routes while supporting the rapid growth of e-commerce and general freight traffic.

The 767-300BCF offers 24 main deck pallet positions and a total cargo volume of 444.3 cubic metres, including lower deck and bulk compartment capacity.
