Frankfurt-Hahn and Aktau airports form strategic cargo partnership
TRIWO Hahn Airport GmbH and Aktau International Airport Joint Stock Company have entered a strategic partnership covering Frankfurt-Hahn Airport (HHN) in Germany and Aktau International Airport (SCO) in Kazakhstan, with a particular focus on cargo development and operational collaboration.
The agreement is already delivering early results: two cargo flights between the airports have been completed, with two more due shortly and additional operations under planning.
Both airports expect the cooperation to highlight the freight potential between the two regions.
Alongside cargo development, the partnership will include an in-depth exchange of best practice across technology, security, customer service and day-to-day operations, spanning both cargo and passenger activities.
Strengthening trade relations between Germany and Kazakhstan is also a core goal.
Hahn Airport remains one of Germany’s few airports with a 24/7 operating licence. Its central European location allows it to serve major production and logistics centres across the EU, providing a gateway to long-haul markets in the Middle East and Asia.
Aktau Airport, meanwhile, occupies a strategic position in Kazakhstan’s Mangystau region, the country’s only province with direct access to the Caspian Sea.
The airport aims to develop as a key transit freight hub along the Europe–Asia axis and offers round-the-clock customs and border control, with a direct rail connection planned.
Meruyert Zholdybayeva, general manager of Aktau International Airport, said: “We are committed to the continuous development of our airport and are always seeking valuable cooperation partners. We are highly anticipating this new partnership with Frankfurt-Hahn Airport. Our face-to-face meeting in Germany was an excellent and promising start to our collaborative journey.”
Rüdiger Franke, managing director and chief executive of Hahn Airport, added: “Through its partnership with Aktau International Airport, Frankfurt-Hahn Airport is expanding its global network. We are very excited about the opportunities this cooperation will bring. I am convinced that both airports can support each other in many ways and will benefit immensely from our mutual exchange of expertise.”
