Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Limited (Hactl), the city’s largest independent cargo handler, has been awarded a new contract to manage cargo services for Hungary Airlines.

Hungary Airlines is the first carrier in 2025 to partner with Hactl, launching scheduled flights between its Budapest hub and Hong Kong. The airline operates Airbus A330F aircraft with a 62-tonne cargo capacity on the route.

Under the agreement, Hactl will provide comprehensive cargo handling services, including terminal operations, aircraft loading and unloading, and documentation support for the new Hong Kong flights.

Budapest is emerging as a key e-commerce hub in Eastern Europe, and Hungary Airlines is well-positioned to leverage this growth. The airline’s new Hong Kong connection strengthens trade links between Greater China and the European Union.

Looking ahead, Hungary Airlines plans to expand its network to the USA and the Middle East as it continues to grow its fleet.

Hactl’s chief executive Wilson Kwong, said: “We welcome Hungary Airlines to the Hactl carrier family; their new services further enhance Hactl’s global connectivity. We look forward to supporting their establishment and growth as an e-commerce specialist, which ties in well with our own focus on this important business area.”
