IAG Cargo, the cargo division of International Airlines Group (IAG), has launched a new ‘Virtual Work Experience’ programme aimed at inspiring the next generation of air cargo professionals.

The free, self-led online initiative is open to anyone aged 14 and above and has been designed to introduce learners to the world of air cargo while highlighting potential career pathways across the aviation sector.

Available globally, the programme combines interactive modules, scenario-based activities, quizzes and guided learning to provide participants with an insight into cargo operations and the wider supply chain.

As part of the experience, learners take on the simulated role of a cargo agent and guide a virtual shipment through key operational stages including acceptance, build-up, loading and handover, providing a practical introduction to real-world cargo handling processes.

The programme also includes a CV skills workshop alongside videos and educational content focused on IAG Cargo’s operations, products and role within global trade and logistics.

Upon completion, learners receive a certificate signed by senior leaders that can be added to CVs. They can also opt in to receive updates on future learning opportunities and in-person work experience placements.

Caroline Andrews, chief customer and people officer at IAG Cargo, said: “The Virtual Work Experience programme is specifically designed with the next generation of global cargo leaders in mind. We know from speaking with young people that there is strong curiosity about aviation careers, but many are not sure where to begin.

“This initiative gives them a first connection to our industry. It helps them understand the breadth of careers available within air cargo and the role we play in keeping global trade moving, from delivering fresh food and medicines to supporting essential supply chains around the world.

“It is an important step in building our future talent pipeline, and we hope it encourages learners to continue exploring opportunities with us, whether that means progressing to our graduate schemes or taking part in in-person work experience.”

The launch forms part of IAG Cargo’s wider investment in early-career development, which includes apprenticeships and its established graduate programme offering 24-month placements across areas such as logistics, data and commercial operations.

The graduate programme provides hands-on experience across the company’s London Heathrow and Madrid hubs, with many recent participants progressing into full-time roles within IAG Cargo and the wider IAG group.
