Centralny Port Komunikacyjny (CPK) has awarded a major design contract for the next phase of the Cargo Zone at Poland’s future flagship transport hub.

The company, which is delivering the Port Polska investment programme, has signed an agreement with Przedsiębiorstwo Spółdzielcze Budoprojekt to prepare design documentation for Cargo 2.

The contract, valued at PLN 8.9 million gross, is the second of three key agreements intended to shape the cargo infrastructure at the future airport.

Port Polska is a strategic infrastructure programme aimed at creating a modern national transportation system that integrates air, rail, and road transport.

Cargo 2 will comprise a complex of facilities and supporting infrastructure designed for global logistics integrators operating their own distribution networks.

The project is intended to create an efficient and secure environment for courier and express cargo, supporting faster shipment handling as global demand for air freight continues to rise.

The design will bring warehousing, transhipment and sorting functions into a single integrated layout, with the aim of reducing handling times and supporting uninterrupted logistics processes.

Security will also be a major focus, with strict separation and controlled access planned between airside and landside areas to protect both cargo and personnel.

The integrator facilities will be positioned at the interface between airside and landside operations, enabling rapid transfer of goods between aircraft and road transport.

CPK said the buildings will operate as high-speed transfer hubs, minimising storage time while maximising throughput. A dedicated sorting zone will also be included to organise shipments by destination.

Flexible spatial and technological solutions are planned to allow the cargo system to adapt to changing volumes and future growth.

The first Cargo Zone design contract, covering Cargo 1, was previously awarded to Cundall Polska.

Due to the scale and complexity of the investment, the Cargo Zone design has been divided into three packages, each covering different functional and spatial requirements across the airport site.

According to the current investment schedule, the Cargo Zone facilities are expected to be operational by the end of 2031.
