They say you can’t be a real regional aviation reporter until you’ve been to Oberpfaffenhofen Airport, and I’m pleased to say that I’ve now been there, even if I still struggle to say or spell it.
Last month I attended the roll-out of the Deutsche Aircraft D328eco at said facility, and generally I was impressed with what I saw. The airframe was complete (minus engines) and from the conversations I had with people involved with the project, they were confident of getting the airframe and its multi-role variant tested, certified and into production as soon as possible.
I don’t doubt that they can do it. After all, the aircraft is based on the long-established Dornier 328 and the company has signed dozens of deals with suppliers, apparently very happy with being able to provide components for a German OEM. From what I’ve heard, the production facilities are top-notch as well. Claude Dornier would be proud.
