Cathay has earned two accolades at the Air Transport World’s 51st annual Airline Industry Achievement Awards, with Cathay Cargo named the Best Cargo Operator and Cathay Pacific the Eco-Airline of the year.

Chief customer and commercial officer Lavinia Lau said: “Winning these two prestigious airline industry awards at the same time is an extraordinary achievement and a true testament to the efforts and dedication of our entire global team over the past year.”

As the largest cargo operator at one of the world’s busiest airports, Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), the cargo operator award solidifies Cathay as a leading figure in global air cargo.

In 2024, Cathay Cargo became the first cargo carrier to adopt the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) ONE Record protocol in some of its daily operations and launched a new application programming interface (API) that allows its forwarders to access Click & Ship booking platform on their own systems.

Both Cathay Cargo and its cargo terminal in HKIA possess the complete IATA Centre of Excellence for Independent Validators certifications, which along with the new award is a testament to its expertise in the aviation cargo industry.

In line with Cathay’s mission for sustainability, it committed to cutting down to net-zero carbon emissions in its operation by 2050 and transitioning to more eco-friendly resource use and solutions.

Cathay general manager of sustainability, Grace Cheung, said: “At Cathay, we believe that sustainability issues are complex and require collective effort. This recognition highlights the power of collaboration and our commitment to bringing together our people, customers, suppliers, business partners, regulators, and communities for a more sustainable future.”

The airline’s corporate sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) programme, which launched in 2022, aims to reduce emissions and established its position as a leader in Asia with new members joining and a commitment to 6,050 metric tonnes of SAF.

Lau added: “We are immensely proud to have been recognised in these two areas, and these accolades will serve as further motivation as we continue striving towards becoming one of the world’s greatest service brands.”
