Cathay Pacific boosts Boeing 777-9 order to 35 aircraft
Cathay Pacific has expanded its commitment to the Boeing 777-9, placing an additional order for 14 more aircraft and bringing its total order book to 35 of the world’s largest twin-engine passenger jets.
The Hong Kong-based carrier said the latest deal will support its long-term fleet renewal and expansion strategy, enabling it to meet growing demand on long- and ultra-long-haul routes.
The 777-9 is designed to cut fuel burn and emissions by an average of 20% and reduce noise by 40% compared to the aircraft it replaces.
Ronald Lam, Cathay Group’s chief executive, said: “We plan to expand and renew our fleet with the additional 777-9 aircraft, enabling us to continue our rich history of connecting the world with our Hong Kong hub. Cathay Pacific aims to further strengthen our ongoing partnership with Boeing and leverage the world-class features of the new 777-9 as we strive to become the world’s best premium airline.”
Cathay Pacific has operated Boeing 777s for over 30 years, with the next-generation model expected to deliver lower operating costs and greater efficiency across both passenger and cargo operations.
The aircraft has a range of 13,510km, allowing non-stop connections between Hong Kong and key long-haul markets.
Brad McMullen, Boeing‘s senior vice president of commercial sales and marketing, said: “This latest order demonstrates the value of the 777-9 and further strengthens the airline’s tradition of delivering superb comfort, convenience and connectivity to passengers for years to come.”
