Scottish regional airline, Loganair, has opened applications for its four-year apprenticeship programme,  looking to recruit aspiring mechanical engineers in Glasgow and Aberdeen.

Apprentices will be paid while studying and completing on-the-job training, and upon the programme’s end, will receive a UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Part 66 aircraft maintenance license.

The Loganair Modern Apprentice programme on Aircraft Maintenance (SCQF Level 6) will also give trainees hands-on experience with maintenance services for varied types of aircraft, working with its fleet of almost 40 aircraft.

Dave Exon, chief technical officer at Loganair, said:

“With guidance from experienced mentors and exposure to our diverse fleet, apprentices gain the technical skills and confidence needed to thrive in aviation engineering. We’re proud to support the next generation of engineers and look forward to welcoming new talent to the team.”

Loganair has a network of maintenance operations based in Glasgow, Aberdeen, Isle of Man, and Orkney, and it trains and employs engineers across the operations. It recently announced its plans to open a new facility in Southampton, which will open up more job opportunities for future apprentices and prospective employees.

As well as the technical skills, Loganair states that the apprenticeship is also focused on equipping trainees with broader skill sets like career development, time management, and a practical understanding of health and safety.

Steven Reid, engineering maintenance manager at Loganair, said:

“Helping our apprentices reach their potential and ensuring the safety of aircraft for future generations speaks volumes about the values and commitment at Loganair. We do not just focus on their technical skills, but also on building a foundation for a long-lasting, successful career in aviation.”
