Ryanair’s O’Leary speaks out over rival’s all-you-can-fly offer

Ryanair’s outspoken boss has criticised Wizz Air’s unlimited flight card.

The proposition allows card holders to travel on any Wizz flight for a €9.99 booking fee, providing the seat is booked no more than three day’s in advance. The card cost €499 per annum, and is currently ‘sold out’, so unavailable for new entrants.

Responding to a question on Irish radio station Newstalk, O’Leary explained that Ryanair was not considering introducing a similar offer. “You can fly as often as you like but you pay €9 every time you book a flight and you can only book the flight three days before departure,” he said.

“Most of the flight will be full, there’ll be no seat availability. It’s an interesting marketing stunt but that’s all it is”.

Speaking on another radio show on the station the following morning, Wizz Air Chief Corporate and ESG Officer Yvonne Moynihan dismissed his criticism.

“The comments of Mr O’Leary were not only provocative but they were also inaccurate,” she said.

“We have been overwhelmed by the extremely positive response to the new all-you-can-fly membership.

“It gives thousands of travellers hundreds of options for a one-time fixed price for one year. There are no blackout periods or restricted destinations”.
