Virgin Australia tops OTP and flight completion rates for January
According to Australia’s Bureau of Infrastructure and Transport Research Economics (BITRE), Virgin Australia completed a record 99.2 per cent of scheduled domestic flights in January 2025, and achieved an on on-time performance (OTP) rate of 78 per cent, well ahead of its major competitors.
In comparison, the benchmark for the average domestic Australian carrier has been 97.8 per cent for scheduled flights and 80.7 per cent for on time take-offs.
Virgin Australia’s chief operations officer, Stuart Aggs, said: “Reliability is incredibly important to our guests, and never more so than in the holiday period when people are travelling to see family and friends.”
The airline’s success is due in part to the precaution measures it has instituted to help prepare for any disruptions that might affect flight plans, including keeping additional aircrafts on standby and extra staff on reserve.
“We call it SPOT – safely performing on time – and it is a responsibility our team takes very seriously, so it is great their hard work is paying off,” said Aggs.
As of February 21st, the airline has maintained its notable record with a reported 80 per cent departure OTP for the month.
