A Japan Airlines A350-900 is currently engulfed in flames at Tokyo Haneda Airport (HND).
Initial reports suggest that the aircraft collided with with a Bombardier Dash-8 operated by Japanese Coast Guard wile landing on runway 34R. JAL has said that all 379 passengers were evacuated. However, both aircraft have been destroyed by the fire and there is no word yet regarding the six people on board the Bombardier.
While full details are yet to emerge, it seems that the nose gear collapsed on impact and the fire started from the engines while the aircraft came to a stop on the runway. One engine was unable to be shut down and continued to run while passengers were evacuated.
The A350-900, registered JA13XJ entered service in September 2021. Its demise is the first hull loss of the A350 series to date. The Dash-8 was 16 years old, and one of two aircraft operated by the Coast Guard.
