Pratt & Whitney announces diversity scholarship

Pratt & Whitney has announced a scholarship initiative worth US$1.25 million to help diversify the company’s future workforce.

Designed for under-represented minorities, the manufacturer’s ‘Pratt & Whitney Scholars Program’ will provide four cohorts of five engineering students from the University of Connecticut with US$10,000 per year for four years.

The scholarship also includes a summer internship opportunity at Pratt & Whitney after the students’ sophomore year, a senior design project during their senior year, and professional development and mentorship opportunities.

Pratt & Whitney’s vice president and chief human resources officer Maureen Waterston said: “The new Pratt & Whitney Scholars Program with UConn School of Engineering will serve the diverse communities and schools where we live and work.

“With this scholarship, we look forward to providing mentorship and support to 20 diverse engineering students. At Pratt & Whitney we are committed to building a diverse workforce with access for all as we continue to inspire the future generations of innovators.”

Applications are now open, and the first awardees will be announced in early January 2022.
