Following the collapse of UK regional airline Blue Islands, Glasgow-based Loganair has signalled that it is keen to fly some of the former carrier’s routes.

The airline has been open about its intention to submit the appropriate licences to operate the Guernsey–Jersey and Guernsey–Southampton routes.

Loganair CEO Luke Farajallah said confirmed that he has had ‘constructive and positive meetings with the States of Guernsey’ over the issue.

In a press statement, Loganair said: “A competitive, multi-carrier environment will strengthen long-term resilience, improve affordability, and safeguard essential connectivity for islanders”. The statement added that the airline would not seek any financial assistance from the Guernsey government.

Blue Islands surprised many when it abruptly shuttered operations in November. The main issue was a loan made to the airline from the island government during the pandemic. It seems that the government called the loan in, leaving Blue Island’s position untenable.
