At the Paris Air Show, Air Austral and Madagascar Airlines signed a codeshare agreement and a Special Prorate Agreement (SPA), marking a decisive step in the revival of their commercial cooperation. This partnership aims to strengthen connectivity between Madagascar, Réunion, and other regional and international destinations, while expanding fare options and travel opportunities for customers of both airlines.

Under the agreement, Madagascar Airlines customers can now book, under MD flight number, routes operated by Air Austral between Reunion Island and several Malagasy destinations. In addition, they benefit from simplified access, via Reunion Island, to long-haul routes offered by Air Austral, such as Bangkok (BKK) and Johannesburg (JNB). For its part, Air Austral has access to the entire domestic network of Madagascar Airlines thanks to the SPA agreement, thus offering its customers a more complete coverage of the Malagasy territory, with easier connections to key destinations.

Codeshare flights will be available for sale in both airlines’ reservation systems on June 27, 2025.

“This partnership with Air Austral is fully in line with the dynamics of the Phénix 2030 plan, which aims to rebuild a reliable, connected and forward-looking airline. It allows us to offer our passengers greater flexibility, choice and continuity of service between the islands and beyond. It is also a concrete way of strengthening the visibility of Madagascar, this unique destination, at the heart of a booming regional area, and of better connecting our country to tourist, economic and cultural flows” Thierry de Bailleul, CEO of Madagascar Airlines

“I am delighted with the establishment of this commercial partnership between Air Austral and Madagascar Airlines. This code-share agreement goes beyond a simple collaboration between two airlines; it embodies the rapprochement of two neighboring islands, with a strong shared history. This partnership is fully in line with Air Austral’s development strategy, which is firmly committed to offering our customers, through quality interline partnerships, ever more travel and discovery opportunities. We are thinking in particular of the highly prized island of Sainte-Marie, but also of the treasures of southern Madagascar that the people of Réunion will be delighted to rediscover,”  concluded Hugues Marchessaux, Chairman of the Board of Air Austral.
