SWISS is naming 20 of its aircraft after popular tourist spots in Switzerland to mark its 20th anniversary.
This week the carrier conducted an official naming ceremony for one of its A220-100s which has been named after the Viamala region in Canton Graubünden.
The naming was conducted today in the SWISS hangar at Zurich Airport, with top skier Gino Caviezel performing the honours.
SWISS teamed up with Switzerland Tourism last December to launch a contest inviting the country’s tourist regions to compete for the honour.
SWISS Head of Regional Sales Switzerland Marco Willa said: “I am delighted that the multi-faceted Viamala tourist region will now have its name carried on one of our Airbus A220s.
“With all its extensive history, this wonderful region is an ideal choice, and a perfect ambassador for all of Switzerland’s natural beauty.”
The first flight of the newly-named ‘Viamala’ was from Zurich to Dresden. All passengers were given free entry to the Viamala Gorge beauty spot.
