Volotea, the Spanish airline connecting small and mid-sized European cities, and Lufthansa’s low-cost Eurowings have established a sales partnership on over 140 key routes with no overlap.
These connections will include eight new routes operated by Volotea, directly connecting key German airports to the French and Italian cities of Bordeaux, Lyon, Nantes, Florence and Verona, with both airlines broadening their offer to customers.
Volotea has been one of the fastest-growing airlines in Europe over the last decade, with operations in 16 countries reaching over 100 destinations. The carrier has operated in Germany since 2019, running Airbus’ weekly internal shuttle from Hamburg to Toulouse. With the new sales cooperation, Volotea ventures into a new market and starts to offer scheduled flights in Germany for the first time.
At the same time, Eurowings intends to open its sales channels for Volotea offering popular small and medium-sized destinations in France and Italy. With the envisaged mutual sales agreement, the customers of Volotea as well as the customers of Eurowings would benefit from the visibility of more than 140 non-overlapping connections on both airlines’ websites, more than 100 of which are served by Eurowings and around 40 by Volotea. In doing so, Eurowings and Volotea would improve the offer to their passengers, providing easy access to a more comprehensive range of travel options throughout Europe.
In the context of the envisaged cooperation, Volotea will open eight new routes from/to Germany, directly connecting Berlin, Dusseldorf, Stuttgart, and Hamburg to its bases in Bordeaux, Lyon, Nantes (all France), Florence, and Verona (both Italy). These new routes will operate at a frequency of two times per week with a capacity of around 60,000 seats.

Carlos Muñoz, founder and CEO of Volotea: “We are very pleased to launch our commercial activities in Germany with a strong distribution partner and important player in the country. The planned strategic agreement with Eurowings is significant and unique, covering more than 140 routes with no overlap and signals the potential for a stronger, long-term partnership. With eight new destinations, we can also present our distinctive offer to the German public. Volotea connects important but often underserved medium-sized cities without stopovers that make traveling easy. With routes from Berlin, Dusseldorf, Hamburg and Stuttgart to cities such as Bordeaux or Florence, we are also responding to new customer requests.”
Jens Bischof, CEO of Eurowings: “Step by step, we are strengthening the ‘Euro’ in our Eurow-ings brand name. Our roots are in Germany, but we are becoming more and more a European airline. Having established Eurowings in Northern and Eastern Europe with recent base openings in Prague and Stockholm, our next step is to expand booking options towards Southern Europe. The mutual sales cooperation envisaged with Volotea would allow us to offer our customers many new and exciting destinations in France and Italy as well as enhanced connectivity within Southern Europe.”
