Wizz Air has confirmed that there won’t be scheduled services to the U.S.

The actions comes following speculation in some news outlets that the carrier was planning to open some routes. The stories seem to have stemmed from an application made by Wizz Air to operate charter flights to the U.S, presumably using its new A321XLR aircraft.

However, the airline has made clear that these flights are simply charter operations for the upcoming football World Cup in the summer.

On an earnings call held on January 29, CFO Ian Mullings confirmed that the airline had  ‘no plans’ to open a scheduled service across the Atlantic. This is backed up by comments made by CEO  József Váradi to ABN in 2024 where he explained that trying to compete with legacy carriers on Europe-US routes would likely result in being ‘buried in the North Atlantic’ as competition is already fierce.
