GAMECO Qingyuan completed its first in-house overhaul of a Boeing 777 landing gear set in January.

In a short ceremony, the landing gear set was delivered back to the airline customer China Southern Airlines (CSN) and lease owner China Aviation Supplies Co Ltd (CASC).

This is a strategic maintenance project of GAMECO to support China Southern Airlines. It started in 2017, involving 803 standardised, modular work cards, introducing a number of the latest maintenance standards and the development of customised tools and equipment.

In early 2019, the branch obtained the 777 CAAC and FAA landing gear overhaul license. At present, China Southern Airlines operates a total of 27,777 aircraft and the expected landing gear overhaul business volume is considerable.

GAMECO’s Qingyuan landing gear overhaul base is located in the Qingyuan Taiping Yingfu Industrial Zone.

With an initial investment of 250 million yuan, the dual-site facility provides full in-house capabilities for assembly, NDT, machining, electroplating and testing.

It is built to the latest environmental and labour safety standards and is equipped with high-quality machinery. According to the investment plan, the designed capacity will exceed the overhaul of 100 landing gear sets annually, after a full ramp-up.

This delivery also marks an important addition to the GAMECO Qingyuan product portfolio, which now includes Airbus A320 Family and Boeing 737 narrowbody aircraft and A330 and 777 widebody landing gears. It makes GAMECO one of the largest and most comprehensive landing gear overhaul facilities in China and the APAC region.
