Fokker Services Group to open new widebody aircraft maintenance hangar

Fokker Services Group is building a widebody aircraft maintenance hangar at its existing site in Business Park Aviolanda at Woensdrecht Airport in the Netherlands.

The independent aviation aftermarket company is working with modular architecture specialist Gaptek.

The hangar will be 87 metres in length, 86 metres wide, and 27 metres high. It will accommodate aircraft such as Airbus A330s, Airbus A350s and Boeing 777s, and will be equipped with floor heating and cooling systems all powered by electricity.

Fokker Services Group said the hangar was part of a larger expansion plan, which includes hiring new staff, constructing a second new widebody hangar and extending workshop spaces at its global facilities.

“This new hangar is the latest development in our company-wide growth plan,” said Fokker Services Group’s co-CEO Roland van Dijk. “With this investment we are making a long-term commitment to our colleagues, customers, suppliers and the local community. As the markets for widebody maintenance and VIP completions continue to grow, this modern hangar extension allows us to support new and existing customers for the years to come.”

With planning, development and preparations finalised, Gaptek has now started the modular hangar construction on-site, which will take 12-14 weeks to complete. The design is based on Gaptek’s patented lightweight system, which the company said is “fast to assemble and disassemble, and easy to relocate”.

Gaptek’s president Tomas Felius commented: “Since the beginning, one of the most important values for Gaptek is to provide more sustainable and cost efficient solutions. Our technology, initially engineered to provide solutions for military defence, is now more advanced and permits us to provide turnkey facilities that can adapt to the actual civil aviation market needs, such as fast deployment, low environmental impact, capability to be easily adapted and relocated while maintaining the CE quality and to comply with IBC and local regulations. This project is an important milestone in the international markets expansion’s for Gaptek.”

Fokker Services and Fokker Techniek recently rebranded to become Fokker Services Group.
