The construction work on Lufthansa Technik AERO Alzey’s new logistics centre has been officially inaugurated at a special ceremony.

The new building will serve as a storage and logistics centre for aircraft engines and engine spare parts for Lufthansa Technik AERO Alzey, expanding the current 242,000 sqft of factory premises with an additional logistics area of approximately 110,000 sqft.

The construction is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2024.

The inauguration ceremony took place in the presence of Daniela Schmitt, minister for economic affairs, transport, agriculture and viticulture of Rhineland-Palatinate, Steffen Jung, mayor of Alzey, Heiner Illing, member of the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament, and Heiko Sippel, district administrator of the Alzey-Worms district.

The project is in conjunction with construction and service company Goldbeck, in cooperation with the real estate project developer, the Timbra Group.

Lufthansa Technik AERO Alzey – the 100% subsidiary of Lufthansa Technik AG – repairs and overhauls engines for regional and business aircraft as well as the latest generation of engines for medium-range jets in Alzey.

Additionally, it offers further services such as a round-the-clock On-Site Service or leasing solutions.

Tobias Baumgart, chief operating officer of Lufthansa Technik AERO Alzey, said: “More and more customers from all over the world want to have their engines overhauled by us.

“With Timbra and Goldbeck, we have the right partners to create more space for this growth in Alzey.”

“The resulting improvement in logistics processes contributes to faster movement of engine parts and enables optimal supply to production.”

The organisations state that sustainability plays a significant role in planning and construction of the facility.

While high-tech aviation parts are ready for use in the building, a photovoltaic system on the hall roof reduces the CO2 emissions of logistics and production processes.

In addition, the entire roof area is greened and the industrial underfloor heating is combined with a highly efficient heat pump.

Through these measures, the building will receive a gold certification from the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB).

Rubin Siddique, chief executive of Lufthansa Technik AERO Alzey, said: “We are aware of our responsibility for people and nature – by constructing the new building, we are creating the potential for further growth and thus important jobs.

“At the same time, we are meeting the highest standards of sustainable construction.”
