Welcome to the latest issue of MRO Management. It’s a busy time for MRO companies around the world at the moment, but great challenges remain – with labour shortages and supply chain issues among the biggest.

That’s certainly the case for MROs headquartered in Europe, who are the subject of the latest edition of our ‘Industry Focus’ series, which aims to offer a comprehensive state-of-the-industry analysis for different regions of the world.

“The focus at the moment for MRO leaders is managing their business for the here and now,” says Naveo Consultancy’s managing director Richard Brown in our report. “Beyond that, [there is a] need to be efficient, a need to think smarter, faster, leaner.”

There are many ways of achieving that, as we discover throughout this issue. The always-insightful Joramco CEO Fraser Currie explains how his company is continually developing, having just recorded its best first-half figures on record. He promises “exciting developments” to look forward to.

Oscar Torres was only named president and CEO of Kellstrom Aerospace Group in April, but he is able to bring more than 20 years of experience at the company to this leadership role. Speaking to him for our ‘Top Table’ interview, it was clear Torres has plenty of ideas to take the business forward – and a powerful vision to add capabilities, expand Kellstrom’s technical services unit, and embrace digitalisation.

Back in Europe, a major turnaround strategy has been successfully implemented at Caerdav – formerly Cardiff Aviation – by group CEO Joachim Jones and chairman Bruce Dickinson, the legendary Iron Maiden frontman. Now in its tenth year, the company is set for growth and the pair have a new goal – for Caerdav to become one of the industry’s major players.

This issue also offers our regular array of columns and features. We take an in-depth look at what MROs are doing to address the shortfall of maintenance technicians and engineers; review the current landscape for companies involved in aircraft painting; and get the thoughts of wheels, brakes and landing gear MRO providers on how they see the future.
