Lufthansa Technik has announced that 339 young individuals will soon embark on their apprenticeship or dual study programme at its German locations, which it says is a slight increase in the number of new apprentices compared to last year.
Despite the competitive training market, Lufthansa Technik says it has successfully filled 94% of its available positions.
This year, Lufthansa Technik saw a particularly high number of applicants for industrial professions. At the Hamburg location alone, the number of filled positions across all fields increased by 12% compared to the previous year.
In addition to various apprenticeship opportunities, the company also offers a range of dual study programmes, including a new programme in real estate management being introduced this year.
Andrea Jacobsen, head of entry programmes at Lufthansa Technik, said: “We are proud to welcome so many motivated and talented young professionals to our company again this year.
“The ability to fill 94% of the advertised positions reflects the great interest and trust young people have in our high-quality training and shows that our recruitment measures are successful.”
In June, Lufthansa Technik launched its new employer brand “Taking Off Together” which encompasses what is important to employees at the company; to work together with great pride and passion, helping make aviation better every day while continuing to grow both personally and as a team.
Cristina Maack, one of the two heads of people brand at Lufthansa Technik, said: “The labour market has changed a lot in the last few years and has evolved from an employer’s market to an employee’s market. We are confident that our new strong employer brand will help us stand out from the competition and attract the right applicants to our company.”
To address the ongoing high demand for qualified personnel, Lufthansa Technik says it is not only offering an extensive training programme, but that it also engages in a variety of recruitment activities. The company is increasingly focusing on candidates who have traditionally received less attention.
For example, Lufthansa Technik is placing greater emphasis on attracting international applicants. Additionally, with the “Senior Experts” programme, launched last year, the company is specifically targeting individuals of retirement age.
Furthermore, the “women@LHT” initiative is designed to promote workplace diversity by attracting more women to Lufthansa Technik.
The company also has strategic partnerships with universities and is continuously improving its application and onboarding processes, making it easier for candidates to apply, including offering the option to apply via WhatsApp. Special welcome events are organised to support new employees as they begin their journey with the company.
Out of the total 339 new traineeships and study placements, 239 are provided by Lufthansa Technik AG, 51 by Lufthansa Airline’s technical operations, and the remaining by other companies within the Lufthansa Technik Group.
This year, women represent 9% of traineeships and 24% of study placements.
