MRO Europe 2025: Korean Air to upgrade its Airbus predictive maintenance solution

Korean Air has signed an agreement to adopt Airbus’ advanced data-driven predictive maintenance solution, Skywise Fleet Performance+ (S.FP+).

Korean Air has signed an agreement to adopt Airbus’ advanced data-driven predictive maintenance solution, Skywise Fleet Performance+ (S.FP+).

The solution is an upgraded platform that integrates and replaces the airline’s existing Skywise Predictive Maintenance+ (SPM+) and Skywise Health Monitoring (SHM) tools.

The airline’s adoption of S.FP+ is a key strategic initiative to enhance operational efficiency and unify maintenance systems in preparation for the airline’s expanded fleet following the integration with Asiana Airlines.

S.FP+ is designed to maximise aircraft availability and operational reliability by using advanced data analytics to detect potential component issues before they occur.

The ‘Control’ tier, which Korean Air has selected, includes features such as pre-departure check support and intelligent troubleshooting tools powered by natural language processing (NLP).

This proactive approach is expected to significantly reduce Aircraft on the Ground (AOG) situations and associated costs.

The solution will be applied to Korean Air’s A321neo, A330, A350, and A380 fleets, and will be extended to Asiana Airlines’ Airbus fleet after the full integration of the two carriers.

Jong Hoon Oh, head of the predictive maintenance team at Korean Air, said: “Our data-driven maintenance strategy has proven its value, preventing over 100 potential flight disruptions in 2024 alone.

“This upgrade to S. Fleet Performance+ is a strategic step as we prepare to integrate the Asiana fleet, ensuring we maintain the highest levels of operational reliability and efficiency at a larger scale.”

Raymond Lim, head of customer services Asia-Pacific at Airbus, said: “This collaboration highlights our shared commitment to innovation, and we are proud to support Korean Air in unlocking new levels of operational reliability through data-driven maintenance.”

The agreement was announced at the Aviation Week MRO Europe 2025 event in London.
