Saudi Arabia’s new ‘digitally native’ airline Riyadh Air has announced a collaboration with Boeing to adopt an array of advanced digital solutions.

Designed to streamline operations, reduce maintenance costs, and improve overall flight performance, the cutting-edge technology will assist Riyadh Air as it prepares for its inaugural flight in 2025.

Riyadh Air claims to become the world’s most forward-thinking carrier, embracing the best sustainability practices and elevating travel experiences.

As a startup airline, it says it has a unique opportunity to adopt the latest technologies and systems from day one.

The airline currently has 72 Boeing 787s on order with plans to grow its fleet by 2030.

Peter Bellew, chief operating officer of Riyadh Air said. “By leveraging Boeing’s suite of digital solutions, we are well-positioned for a successful launch and sustainable growth, as we are currently preparing for flight trials and working towards obtaining AOC certification starting September 2024.”

The key agreements as part of the collaboration include Airplane Health Management (AHM) to provide Riyadh Air with real-time maintenance alerts and predictive analytics.

AHM will help the airline to minimise aircraft time on ground and avoid flight disruption.

In celebration of its 20th anniversary, Boeing says it is introducing AHM 2.0, featuring enhanced prognostics, self-service analytics and new alert categories.

Also included in the agreement is the Toolbox Tasks and Toolbox Library which will offer comprehensive digital management of aircraft maintenance documentation, enabling efficient troubleshooting and repair processes.

Riyadh Air will also implement Boeing’s FliteDeck Pro with associated add-ons, enhancing pilot operations with real-time navigation and operational data, and the Aviator and FliteBrief solutions to streamline flight planning and briefing processes, providing pilots with critical flight information.

Brad Surak, vice president of Boeing Digital Aviation Solutions, said: “These digital products are designed to integrate seamlessly. As an innovative new airline, we are committed to empowering Riyadh Air with cutting-edge solutions that enhance operational efficiency and fleet management.”
