IAG’s new engine MRO business, IAG Engine Tech, has appointed Max Schramm as chief executive to lead the company as it scales its operations and expands its presence in the global MRO market.

The appointment forms part of Iberia’s Flight Plan 2030 strategy, with the new company created to support the growth of the group’s engine maintenance capabilities.

Schramm joins from Lufthansa Technik Canada, where he most recently served as president and chief executive.

He has more than 16 years’ experience in the MRO sector, having held a range of senior commercial, operational and management roles across Lufthansa Technik, specialising in engine maintenance, business development and industrial operations.

Schramm said: “Leading IAG Engine Tech is an incredibly exciting opportunity for me. The company has a very promising future and all the ingredients to become a recognised leader in the industry. It also benefits from Iberia’s proven expertise in engine maintenance and the strong management capabilities of IAG.”

IAG Engine Tech has been established to manage the group’s LEAP engine maintenance business following the award of a LEAP Premier MRO licence by CFM International. The licence places IAG among a limited number of authorised maintenance providers for the engine type worldwide.

The company will oversee investment in facilities, equipment, technical expertise and workforce development to support growing demand for LEAP engine maintenance services from both IAG Group airlines and third-party customers.

Operations will be based at Iberia’s engine maintenance facilities at La Muñoza in Madrid, with the first LEAP engine maintenance work scheduled to begin during Q1 2027.

IAG Engine Tech aims to become a leading provider of next-generation engine MRO services while supporting the continued expansion of IAG’s maintenance business and industrial capabilities.
