Isac Roths, chief executive of FCAH Aerospace, outlines First Class Air Support’s role in shaping sustainable MRO.
As global demand for sustainable practices reaches an inflection point, the aircraft MRO sector faces both a challenge and an opportunity: to address its environmental impact with innovative, actionable solutions.
The aviation industry faces growing pressure to adopt eco-friendly practices, with recycling driving a shift toward sustainability in aircraft lifecycle management.
First Class Air Support, an FCAH Aerospace company, stands at the forefront of this movement. As a member of the Aerospace Fleet Recycling Association (AFRA), we adhere to rigorous standards that guide aircraft end-of-life (AEOL) companies in maximising component reutilisation and achieving exceptional recyclability, all while prioritising environmental stewardship. Our AFRA certification underscores our commitment to redefining sustainable aviation practices.
Trained to reclaim
Since 2001, First Class Air Support has disassembled hundreds of aircraft, salvaging more than 3,000 parts from many airframes and up to 10,000 on others. Even with half that number of parts removed, we have harvested as many as 5,000 unique part numbers off a single aircraft. This extensive experience has enabled us to build a vast inventory of recovered components, helping airlines maintain operational efficiency while reducing waste.
Our AEOL team is trained to reclaim valuable aircraft parts and responsibly recycle critical materials such as jet fuel and Skydrol, setting a new standard for reducing environmental impact.
While modern aircraft primarily comprise metals like aluminium, a significant portion includes composite materials that often end up in landfills. First Class Air Support takes pride in recovering, repairing, marketing and reintegrating these components into the aviation ecosystem. To amplify our impact, we collaborate with AFRA‑accredited partners who share our vision of achieving maximum recyclability for hulls ready for demolition.
Recycling within aviation reduces reliance on raw materials and mitigates environmental burdens. By refurbishing valuable resources, we contribute to a circular economy where materials remain in use, extending their lifecycle and value.
Leading the change
With the future of the MRO sector hinging on both responsibility and innovation, First Class Air Support is not just adapting to change – we’re leading it. By staying at the forefront of AFRA standards and pioneering recycling initiatives, we prove that environmental responsibility is necessary and a catalyst for progress. Through our continued commitment to sustainable practices, we are actively shaping the future of aviation – one reclaimed component at a time – ensuring that our operations contribute to a greener, more resilient industry for generations to come.
