Heathrow Terminal 2 celebrated a historic milestone this week as it welcomed the arrival of its one-millionth flight.
On its descent, IcelandAir flight FI454 from Keflavik International Airport was greeted with a celebratory message from the Heathrow Air Traffic Control Tower before passengers and crew disembarked to a warm welcome from Heathrow colleagues.
Terminal 2, also known as ‘The Queen’s Terminal’ was built to replace Heathrow’s first passenger terminal which was opened by Queen Elizabeth II in 1955.
The Queen returned in 2014 to open the current Terminal 2 building, which will celebrate its tenth anniversary on June 4.
Since the first flight arrived at Heathrow Terminal 2 from Chicago O’Hare International Airport, it has seen over 144 million passengers pass through its doors.
