The Boeing Company is reported to have notified suppliers that it is to increase output on its 737 MAX lines,  following years of production cutbacks.

The aircraft manufacturer aims to raise its monthly 737 MAX output from 38 to 42 jets, pending approval from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).  If successful, Boeing plans to further increase production at the Renton facility to around 53 jets per month by late next year.

According to a Bloomberg report, the company has written to suppliers to adjust their output accordingly.

Boeing is working to recover from a $12 billion loss in 2024. Increasing production is key to improving cash flow and reducing debt.  The company has said that cash flow will start turning positive as 737 output rises. Investors will be watching these two metrics closely when Boeing reports its third-quarter earnings later this month.

Airbus is also ramping up its A320neo production, pushing Boeing to keep pace.
