Qantas has joined Airline Allies, an initiative launched by Green Cabin Alliance (GCA.
Airline Allies is a network for airlines to work together on ways of making the cabin less wasteful.
Stephanie Pemberton, Head of Inflight Experience and Product Design, Qantas, said: “Learning from others across the industry will help us better understand how we can reduce the environmental impact of our cabins and keep valuable materials in use for longer.”
While aviation has made progress in areas such as fleet renewal and operational efficiency, most cabin waste ends up in landfill or is incinerated.
Decisions around materials, refurbishment, waste and end-of-life recovery can be fragmented across the cabin supply chain, making collaboration between airlines and industry partners important.
Elina Kopola, Founder of Green Cabin Alliance, commented: “We’re pleased to have Qantas join Airline Allies and look forward to working together on solutions that can help make cabins more durable, easier to repair and reuse, and better prepared for end-of-life recovery.
Virgin Atlantic also joined the initiative earlier this month. Boeing, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Alaska Airlines and Airbus are also part of the GCA advisory board, and the inclusion of airlines will complete the circle of stakeholders.
